Travelodge Stansted Great Dunmow

by Susan Keefe.

We don’t go away very often, with my husband in a wheelchair and our Border Collie Toby our constant companion, it is normally difficult to arrange both disabled and pet friendly accommodation. However, last week I had a call from my brother in the UK to say my dad had been admitted to hospital as an emergency with a collapsed lung.

Straight away I organised Toby’s pet passport and then went on line to book accommodation as we live in France.

We had stayed at the Travelodge group of hotels before and so was very happy to be able to book a disabled room with pet at the Travelodge Stansted Great Dunmow, not far from the hospital.

When we arrived we were met by the Assistant Manager Lynda whose smiley face was so welcoming after such a long drive. I was shown our room which was just perfect, the shower room was fully adapted for disability and the bedroom was clean and welcoming. However, we were off to the hospital and so we returned later, and the reception staff were welcoming, opened the doors to enable me to get the wheelchair and Toby through easily, and couldn’t have been more helpful.

Tired after a long day, we were pleased to notice that there was a café – bar, and after settling down, we left Toby in our room, and went through to enjoy a very nice meal and drink in a friendly atmosphere.

We had the best night’s sleep on their special Travelodge bed (we were so impressed we are ordering one for our home).Refreshed, after a lovely shower, which was especially enjoyed by my husband who normally cannot have one away as the rooms are never as well appointed as this one was, we went through for breakfast.

There was a very good range of cereal, coffees, teas, juices, fruit, yogurts and everything you could wish for in an English breakfast as well as toast and jam/honey etc. Lynda came over again to check we had slept well and that everything was to our liking, and we left breakfast feeling satisfied, happy and ready to face the day ahead.

We stayed at this Travelodge for four days whilst my dad was in hospital and were treated with every consideration and kindness, which was very much appreciated and why I wanted to write this. Often Travelodge’s are considered stopovers, and they are very good for this purpose, however, at short notice I booked online, extended our stay at the hotel when my Dad had a problem, and received nothing but pleasant and excellent service.

Well done Lynda and all her staff at Travelodge Stansted Great Dunmow in Essex, I will recommend you to everyone I know.
